Why say "No"?...Limit access to new ideas perhaps?

Three supervisors stopped the possibility of a debate from being viewed by a wide audience of Newtown Township residents.

As was reported in the Bucks County Courier Times "Debate on town property nixed", the supervisors turned down a request by the Newtown Democrats to use the municipal building and the township's cable network for a debate. Chairman Richard Weaver and supervisors Tom Jirele and Raymond "Skip" Goodnoe declined to give permission to Jay Sensibaugh, the acting vice chairman of Democratic Party.

Since the municipal building and the local cable station are maintained through taxpayer dollars, the money used to stage the debate would come from residents' pockets, Goodnoe said.

The board's decision has little to do with the use of taxpayer dollars, Phil Calabro, Democratic candidate for supervisor, said. The decision was a political move, he said.
"These are the same board members who recently took the time to send surveys to the township residents to get their input on a car dealership," Calabro said. "And then they turn around and vote against the community being well informed on where the candidates stand on important issues."

Sensibaugh said he will continue to search for a venue for the debate, but he anticipates that the cost associated with utilizing a private space might make his task difficult. "The equipment, the cable extension and the facility needed to put together a live broadcast are all in the township municipal building," he said. "It's my opinion [but] their decision to push me in another direction was to make the cost associated with the debate unreasonable."

It's Time...

It's Time...

...to put people first.
...for ill-conceived development & haphazard planning to end.
...for openness in government
...that someone stood up for us.

The food is FREE, the rides are FREE, the music is FREE, the amusements are FREE, the corn maze is FREE, and much much more.

This event will be publicized in the news media extensively. It is NOT primarily a political event. It is our way of saying "thank you" to the first responders. As we meet the day before the fourth anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, we remember the spirit of volunteerism and participation that makes our communities great. We remember the sense of community that bound us together in the dark days following the attack on America - and we renew our common purpose as we thank the many volunteers who work tirelessly to make our world a better place.

WE WANT HUNDREDS OF COMMITTEEPEOPLE AND THEIR FRIENDS TO WELCOME OUR FIRST RESPONDERS AND ARMED FORCES VETS AND FAMILY MEMBERS. PLEASE BE SURE TO JOIN US AND MAKE THIS FREE EVENT A GREAT SUCCESS!
